I got a brief tour of the very impressive Lasch facility with Guido D'Elia, Penn State's football communications and branding director. Tradition is everywhere in the Lasch complex, which reminds me a bit of Notre Dame's Guglielmino Athletics Complex. Pictures of Penn State's All-Americans are displayed along the walls, and John Cappelletti's Heisman Trophy greets visitors to the lobby. The 2008 Big Ten Championship trophy is displayed in the football office lobby, and the 2006 Orange Bowl trophy also sits there. Pretty cool.
The locker room is enormous. I was told to stay off the big white 'S,' or pay the penalty of push-ups or sit-ups. Apparently Paterno once stepped on the 'S,' told his players he couldn't do the push-ups because of a bum shoulder, and then proceeded to wow them with 50 rapid-fire sit-ups. The freshmen lockers are stashed in a nook in the corner of the room, away from the rest of the players.
