The fix is in for Florida State and Bobby Bowden

Chris Griffin

Yesterday we reported on the delay of Florida State's appeal of Bobby Bowden's vacated victories. Not to worry, F$U fans, the fix is in, Bowden's fake wins will stand.

The chair of the NCAA's Division I Infractions Appeals Committee is Christopher Griffin, an attorney with the law firm of Foley & Lardner.

Griffin is listed as an "independent" member of the committee. Wanna take a wild guess as to where he went to school?
Mr. Griffin received his J.D., summa cum laude, in 1978 from Florida State University College of Law, and his B.A. in 1976, summa cum laude, from Florida State University.
But wait, it gets better!
Chris Griffin was a young defensive back for Florida State in the early '70s...
Griffin has undoubtedly recused himself from ruling on F$U's appeal, but we can't help but wonder how the committee will be influenced by its chair.

Moreover, another committee member, Noel Ragsdale, is a Clinical Professor of Law at Southern Cal, which has it's own NCAA problems. Only a cynic would suggest that Griffin will take care of U$C if Ragsdale takes care of F$U.

  1. Joe Pa will still stay ahead in wins especially with the pathetic schedule PSU has this year. I am pretty sure Hargrave Military Academy could finish at .500 with PSU's schedule. Shame. The whole slow ten is a shame.

  2. Talk about conspiracy theories...Do you also believe in sky painters / 911 conspiracies / the Easter Bunny?? Isn't there a JoePa road rage story to report on this summer??

  3. Because I'm SURE while JoePa has been coaching there hasn't been a hand full of his players that have cheated....since Penn State is notorious for having such well-behaved football players...Ya right, get a life with your "fake wins".

  5. Sucks for this shitty writer, finally has something linked to ESPN.com and it one of the most far fetched and worst written articles ever..

  6. Anything to take the focus off of State Penn's seventy-something arrests this decade, right, douchebag?

Doesn't matter anyway. Neither of these guys catches Eddie Robinson for "winningest major college coach."

  7. Key concept here: guy recused himself, just as I'd expect a Penn State alumnus to do in a similar circumstance. Call me crazy, but I'm not seeing how this is a story (glad you get to use your cute li'l dollar-sign things, though....isn't THAT original).

The Easter Bunny as a conspiracy? Your F$U English professor weeps for you. You'd have been better off with the JFK assassination or the Trilateral Commission's plans for one world government.

Journalism? Sorry, we're not journalists like our friend Jay Christensen, a former Los Angeles Times sportswriter who is now The Wiz of Odds. We're just some guys who put things to the smell test. And trust us when we say this one stinks like dead skunk.

We don't disagree with you that Penn State's non-con schedule is weak as a cat. We have been critical of Penn State's scheduling, posting that there should be a marquee non-con game every year.

    Struck a nerve, did we?

  13. "Neither of these guys catches Eddie Robinson for 'winningest major college coach.'"

Not so fast, my friend. JoePa is sitting on 383, while Bowden is somewhere between 382 and 337, depending on how many fake wins one counts (31 at Howard College and as many as 14 potential forfeits).

Eddie Robinson has 408 victories, meaning Joe could pass him by going 26-13 over the next three seasons.

    The Bible says it best:

"You foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see..."

Sir, I believe he was talking to you.

  15. Question for the F$U faithful: Which outcome would be better?

    A) The appeal is denied, putting Bowden hopelessly behind JoePa, but leaving Penn State Clips with egg on our face.

    OR

    B) The ruling is overturned, giving credence to our theory.

If it's the former, we will happily, joyfully, ecstatically post that we were wrong.

  16. firstly, griffin never played for bowden since bowden took over has HC in 1976..you imply some sort of player loyalty from someone who never played for bowden. secondly, PSU allowed 3 players to play in games this year while undergoing criminal investigations..classy. that definitely teaches the correct ethics of life. along with the 70+ arrests PSU has earned over the past decade, one should hardly be throwing stones. glad to see you're whining about 2 men you've never had any interaction with and most likely couldn't have even played for anyway. but you're a fan, aren't you? you're a loser.

We neither stated nor implied any sort of "player loyalty" between Griffin and Bowden. Our excerpt clearly states that Griffin played for F$U "in the early '70s." We trust most fans are aware that JoePa was thrashing Bobby Bowden's WVU squads at that time.

"PSU allowed 3 players to play in games this year while undergoing criminal investigations. classy."

It would have been just as accurate to say "PSU suspended three players for the key Oregon State game because they had a little pot in their room, but it's not like they shot the president."

BTW, so sad for you about Richard Goodman's arrest.
