Mark Wogenrich of the Allentown Morning Call talked to several high school wrestling coaches who believe Cael Sanderson will be a game-changer for Penn State wrestling recruiting.
Nazareth coach Dave Crowell...
"I give them a lot of credit at Penn State. It may be the first time they treated wrestling like they treat football. They went after the very best guy they could for the job and they got him. That's the sense across the whole wrestling community. This immediately puts Penn State right at the top of anybody's wish list.Easton coach Steve Powell...
"For whatever reason, I don't think wrestlers looked at Penn State wrestling the same way football players looked at Penn State football. This immediately gives Pennsylvania high school wrestlers the kind of mind-set that, if I get good enough, I can wrestle for Penn State.
"[Sanderson] was concerned about the wrestlers and their lifestyles and behavior outside the room. That's the voice of experience there: We have to have these things right before we move on. He really understands the things that bring down teams and kids."
"He'll be someone who walks into Liberty's gym at districts and everybody will know who he is. He'll have a big impact."
