Big injury for Iowa?

Last season's heartbreaking loss at Iowa is Jay Paterno's motivation for 2009.

One of Iowa's key players was Shonn Greene, who rushed for 117 yards on 28 carries and two scores. With Greene gone to the NFL as a 3rd-round draft pick, who will tote the rock for the Hawkeyes this season?

Multiple Web sites are reporting that Iowa football running back Jewel Hampton sustained a knee injury during non-contact drills Friday. If confirmed, that would put a damper on the Independence Day weekend for Hawkeye fans.

Hampton was projected as the starting tailback this fall, replacing all-American Shonn Greene. His absence would add to a list of off-season concerns, including a possible injury to offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde, the suspension of tackle Kyle Calloway, and the reported departure of linebacker Jacody Coleman.
One way or the other, the payback will be a bitch on September 26th.
