Penn State verbal Robert Bolden was one of the standouts at this year's
Elite 11 quarterback camp. The nationally-renowned event was held at
Soka University in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
Scout.com director of scouting Scott Kennedy was on hand to evaluate the quarterbacks during every day of the camp. Here is his evaluation of Bolden...

"He is a better passer at this juncture mechanically than Michigan State vebal Joe Boisture. He's not quite as good an athlete and hasn't showed the same type of production that Michigan verbal Devin Gardner has. But he has one of those real flexible releases. He seems to be able to bend (his arm) in almost any direction and release from all different angles with velocity. He's one of those guys that looks like he just whips the ball around and is able to get something on it no matter where he is throwing it from.
"You're not always going to get to drop back and go through your perfect release. So being able to throw from different angles is important because half the time you are going to have a 300-pound guy draped on you.
"With his arm and everything, I thought he was the farthest ahead of the three as a passer. Devin was the best athlete and Joe was the guy that had the best frame. It is a pretty interesting dynamic between the three of them because it's one position, but they're three totally different guys. That's what makes this game so much fun."
Scout.com Midwest analyst Allen Trieu, who has been tracking the progress of each player for well over a year, adds this on Bolden...
"Bolden has had an excellent summer. Every camp he has gone to, he has been impressive.
There seems to some misconception about his style of play. I think the Elite 11 and other camps have shown that he is a polished quarterback who can stand in the pocket and make all the throws. Yes he can throw on the run and he can escape the rush and make plays with his feet, but he is much more of a passer than runner.
What he needs to keep working on is filling out his frame and also needs to (play at a high level) on the field this fall. Will Orchard Lake let him open it up more this season? That would be nice to see, but either way, Penn State got a good one here."
