Last week Ann Bowden said of her husband, "I don't think he is going to retire at the end of the season. That's my feeling."

Bobby hinted at the same thing during this morning's F$U booster luncheon...

  • Someone asked Bowden about who he has looked to for strength during these difficult times. He said there’s not a better example than Joe Paterno. They came by his house and asked him to retire, Bowden said, and he said he wasn’t ready yet and just to cool it. Is this foreshadowing?
  • Bowden said he clings to things like the Paterno story. How Joe fought off the vultures and stuck around long enough to turn things around at Penn State. Bowden said he still has hope he can turn things around. He said, “If you don’t got hope you might as well die.”
  • Someone brought up what Bowden does in terms of actual coaching. And as he has said many times, Bowden said his job is to coach the coaches. “Hire the most qualified people you can find,” Bowden said. “Then have enough sense to leave them alone. I do not micromanage. I think I’ve got the best in the United States.”
  • Bowden said he hasn’t lost his mind because, “I lost that 50 years ago. You don’t have to be old to lose your mind.”
