Rose Bowl opponent for Penn State?

Share/Bookmark
The Penn State football team doesn't have the luxury of looking beyond the next game, but as fans we have no such restrictions, especially during a scrimmage week.

IF Penn State can run the table AND Iowa loses twice AND Wisconsin loses at least once, we MIGHT play in the Rose Bowl. Who is the likely opponent?

The Pac-10 currently has three teams which are undefeated in the conference - Stanford (3-0), Oregon (2-0), and Arizona (1-0). All of them control their own fate and will go to the Rose Bowl if they win out. Five other teams (Arizona State,Oregon State, UCLA, USC, and Washington) have one conference loss each and need help.

Surprisingly, Cal is already done with two Pac-10 losses. Two weeks ago they were ranked 10th in the country. Then they were blown out in consecutive games, 42-3 at Oregon and a 30-3 home loss to USC. You can also stick a fork in Washington State (0-3).

The Trojans are the obvious team to watch. It looks like the key game of the Pac-10 season is USC at Oregon on Halloween night. USC can probably claim the title by running the table, as it's unlikely Washington will win out.

The wild card in the process is a potential BCS Championship Game berth for the Trojans if USC finishes 11-1. If that happens, all bets are off regarding the Big Ten's Rose Bowl opponent.
