Ohio State at Penn State injury update

There's a major injury that could have a huge impact on Saturday's game. Penn State is favored by just 3½ points and the outcome could come down to a last-second field goal attempt...

  • Ohio State's Aaron Pettrey blew out his MCL on Saturday. He was the top-rated kicker on Mel Kiper's NFL Draft board.

Devin Barclay, a former professional soccer player, took Pettrey's place after the injury in the first half of the win over New Mexico State. Ben Buchanan missed his chance because he was ill and not at the game. Barclay made just one of his three field-goal attempts against the Aggies, but his kickoffs were high and long.

  • OSU defensive tackle Dexter Larimore and left guard Justin Boren, who enhance the Buckeyes' physical presence on their respective sides of the ball, are expected to play.

Larimore suffered a knee sprain during the win at Indiana the fifth game of the year and hasn't played since. Boren missed last week's game because of a foot sprain.

  • Terrelle Pryor suffered a slight leg injury against New Mexico State: "It's not really a big deal. I got a little bumped up, but I feel pretty good. It's a little bump on my leg. I'll be fine."

Jim Tressel echoed those comments during his presser: "I would expect him not to be debilitated. Adrenaline is an amazing thing, even when you're feeling a little bit sore or whatnot. All of a sudden the blood starts flowing and the lights are turned on and it's time to go.

"I'm not sure any of our guys, whether it's the ones with the (bruised) ribs or the elbows or the ankles or the hips or the knees or the feet - we've got a little bit of everything. He'll be ready to go."

That being said, Tressel noted that off the field Pryor "has ice bags everywhere."

  • Penn State's Drew Astorino acknowledged Tuesday he has been favoring a left shoulder injury since summer camp but says it does not affect his play.

"I'm not really sure what's wrong with it," the sophomore strong safety said. "It's something I can play with, and it's not really a big deal."

He said it started out as a stinger and now gets loose during games. Astorino rehabs his shoulder a little bit during the week, but it hasn't been looked at by doctors beyond that.

"That's an extremely underrated injury too because you lose complete strength in your shoulder. You get a stinger almost every time you hit, and he's sucked it up," said linebacker Sean Lee, who coach Joe Paterno said is close to 100 percent and has more confidence in his knee.

  • Still no word on whether or not backup PSU tailback Stephfon Green will play against Ohio State.
