Penn State bowl destination: Don't count out Fiesta or Orange

We had a very interesting conversation about Penn State's bowl chances with our friend Jerry Palm. Jerry is a BCS guru and RPI guru who makes frequent radio and television appearances...

Jerry says at least one and possibly two of Iowa, Penn State, and Wisconsin will qualify for the BCS if they all finish 10-2. (The BCS rules require a Top 14 ranking in the final BCS standings to qualify.)

Here are the three teams' remaining schedules...
  • Iowa (9-1): At Ohio State (8-2), home against Minnesota (5-5)
  • Penn State (8-2): Home against Indiana (4-6), at Michigan State (5-5)
  • Wisconsin (7-2): Home against Michigan (5-5), at Northwestern (6-4), at Hawaii (3-6)
All three are extremely desirable bowl teams (ticket sales and TV ratings), so the BCS will definitely take a second Big Ten team assuming there's a qualifier. One of these three teams gets the Fiesta or Orange, the other two get the Cap One and Outback.

One way or another we believe it's Florida for Penn State, against Georgia Tech or an SEC team.
