Bobby Bowden retires, but is the race over with Penn State Joe Paterno?

Bobby Bowden announced his retirement today, effective after the Seminoles bowl game. This ends his race with Penn State's Joe Paterno for all-time coaching victories.

There have been rumors that Bowden will become Alabama-Birmingham's next coach. UAB lost their last two games to finish 5-7, out of the bowl picture and the Blazers' fifth consecutive losing season.

There's also the possibility of Bowden moving to a D-II or D-III school. Once a coach has ten years in Division I, all victories at four-year schools count towards the career total.
