We're a quarter of the way into the season, and at this point we're starting to see how Penn State stacks up this year. What's the biggest positive and negative you've seen so far?
The biggest positive has been the backup tailbacks, Stephfon Green and Silas Redd. The latter, especially, looks like a player.

Our biggest disappointment has been leadership. Or more accurately, lack of same. It spoke volumes that Evan Royster, who came into the season positioned to become Penn State's all-time leading rusher, showed up fat and was not elected a Captain.

Who had a "Come to Jesus" meeting with Shawney Kersey to tell him "If you're not playing enough, you need to work harder and block better"? Apparently nobody.

Who is going to grab people by the collar in the defensive huddle when we're backed up to our goal line and say in no uncertain terms, "They will NOT score a touchdown!"?
Any candidates? Anyone? Anyone?
The Big Ten has had mixed success this first month--Ohio State beat Miami, but Iowa lost to Arizona. Michigan and Michigan State have been better than advertised, but Penn State and Wisconsin have underperformed. As a conference, how do you think the Big Ten stacks up?
We're a little unclear on the question, as all of these schools have (or will soon have) a varsity hockey program except Iowa. Or were you talking about football?
Sorry, we've been Penn State puckheads ever since the Pegula's announcement!
Ohio State is great and the Iowa loss at Arizona was not unexpected. Zona is pretty good and Iowa is starting to get dinged up, especially at running back.

We were thrilled by Little Brother's victory over the Irish. Hats off to Mark Dantonio for breaking Domer hearts a few minutes before his own heart broke.

We're still not sold on Michigan. Denard Robinson is the real deal. What a difference a year makes with regards to his passing! But can he hold up for an entire season?
Don't forget that Tater Tot started off great last season as well before fading down the stretch after a long fall of being beaten on. And the Maize & Blue defense sucks.

Wisconsin will do what it's done for the past couple decades--grind out a bunch of ugly victories. (Emphasis on "victories.")

So what does all this add up to? Dang, we don't know. Ohio State looks good enough to win it all, but still faces tough tests at Wisconsin, then a brutal three-game stretch to end the season: Penn State at home, at Iowa, then Michigan at home.

So much depends on whether the Big Ten sends one or two teams to the BCS and how the bowl match-ups work out. At this point Penn State could end up anywhere from Pasadena to Houston.
It was recently announced that Penn State had extended the Temple series for another three years. How do you feel about playing the Owls on a regular basis?
We think it's good to see our future head coach, Al Golden, on an (almost) annual basis.

We need two-for-ones with MAC teams, so why not Temple?
Temple's Al Golden seems to be a popular choice to replace Joe Paterno, whenever it is that JoePa decides to call it quits. How would you feel about Golden taking over as the head coach of Penn State?
We really like Tom Bradley, but the next coach should be someone with head coaching experience. (Also known as The Charlie Weis Rule.) The pressers would be fascinating, but we just don't know if Scrap has the CEO/public relations skills necessary to be a modern big-time college football coach.

Al Golden has done a remarkable job at Temple and MUST be on the short list when the time comes.
Quick hits...
  • How many times will the BTN announcers mention that Al Golden played and coached at Penn State? We'll set the Over/Under at 3½.
  • Which of the embattled starters is most likely to have a breakthrough game on Saturday? We like the look of this kid named Ki-Jana.
  • Who finishes with more rushing yardage: the entire Penn State backfield or Bernard Pierce? Gotta be PSU. We'll be grinding out some yardage in the fourth quarter.
  • Temple has scored 9 points total in the last four meetings between these teams. Do they surpass that in this game alone? We'll go with 27-13, so the answer is "Yes."
