The biggest news of the day surrounded the emergence of Jim Vollrath and Nick Ruggear at 165 and 197 pounds, respectively. Sanderson decided on Vollrath after he beat Nick Fischer in a wrestle-off last Friday, while Ruggear said the position became his after the Wisconsin match.

Vollrath is a redshirt freshman. He has compiled a 24-6 record this season, wrestling in dual meets and open tournaments throughout the year. He entered the season wrestling 157 pounds, but he has since gained weight and become the go-to guy at 165 pounds.

Meanwhile, true freshman Ruggear will also make his first post season appearance after totalling a 15-12 record on the season.
