The Penn State athletics motto, Success With Honor, rings hollow today, as does this line from the Penn State alma mater...
"May no act of ours bring shame, To one heart that loves thy name."With no football game to distract us, what to do instead of immersing ourselves in filth?
We have read the Grand Jury report on Jerry Sandusky. [Fair warning before you click on the link: The report is EXTREMELY graphic and the subject matter makes it very tough to read.]
For the time being we are going to limit our commentary to a few excerpts from Pages 9 and 10 of the report...
[Gary] Schultz [Penn State Senior Vice President for Finance and Business, who oversaw the University Police] testified that he knew about an investigation of Sandusky that occurred in 1998...Reading that makes our heads want to explode.
Schultz acknowledged that there were similarities between the 1998 and 2002 allegations, both of which involved minor boys in the football showers with Sandusky behaving in a sexually inappropriate manner...
[Penn State president Graham] Spanier acknowledged that [Penn State athletic director Tim] Curley had not indicated any plan to report the matter to any law enforcement authority, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, or any appropriate county child protective agency.
We plan to distract ourselves this afternoon with the Final Table of the World Series of Poker (a/k/a the November Nine)...
With the exception of commercial breaks, every hand from the final table will be shown on a 15-minute delay to audiences on ESPN's network of channels. ESPN2 will handle all of the action starting at 3:30 PM EST as the players battle down to the final three.
All of the broadcasts will also be made available online at ESPN3.com and WSOP.com and will feature commentary from pros such as David Tuchman, Lon McEachern, Phil Hellmuth, Antonio Esfandiari, Olivier Busquet and others.
