NCAA Women's Volleyball: Penn State advances; No. 2 Nebraska upset

Penn State Women's Volleyball, the four-time defending National Champions, began the "Drive For Five" on Friday Night at Rec Hall.

The 8th-seeded Nittany Lions (24-7) swept Liberty (20-13) to advance to the second round Saturday night against Delaware (21-12). The final score was unusual: 25-16, 25-16, 25-16.

But that was hardly the only news from Friday's NCAA action...

On Thursday, second-seeded Nebraska beat Jackson State in the first round.

After the match, Nebraska coach John Cook (father of star NU setter Lauren "Hit & Run" Cook) was asked about playing former Big 12 foe Kansas State in the second round.

"Unless you're Penn State, you're going to have to play a good team in the second round," Cook said.

After this sniping, it is our pleasure to report that K-State knocked off Nebraska in Lincoln Friday night, ending the Huskers season at 25-5.

With the victory, Kansas State moved to 4-80 all-time against Nebraska. Talk about winning when it counts!

That was the only stumble for the Big Ten, which is 9-1 so far in this year's NCAA Tournament.

Other seeds to fall were #16 Texas A&M (swept by Kentucky) and #14 Tennessee (beaten in five sets by Ohio State).

Finally, in honor of John Cook's No. 2 Huskers, we offer this classic clip from Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Enjoy...
